Phoenix 24/25 Battery Charger from Victron: 25A Charging Current for 24V Batteries
Adaptive four-stage charging characteristic:Bulk, absorption, float, storage
The microprocessor-controlled 'adaptive' battery management system of the Phoenix charger can be adapted to different battery types. 'Adaptive' means that the charging characteristic is automatically adjusted to the type of battery use.
The right amount of charge: adapted absorption timeWith low battery discharge (e.g. a yacht connected to shore power), a short absorption phase is selected to prevent overcharging.
After a deep discharge, the absorption phase is automatically extended to ensure that the battery is fully charged.
Prevention of damage from excessive gas evolution: the BatterySafe mode
To shorten the charging time, the highest possible charging current together with a high absorption voltage has been selected. However, to avoid excessive gas evolution towards the end of the absorption phase, the Phoenix charger limits the rate of voltage increase after the gassing voltage has been reached.
Less maintenance and aging in battery standby: the Storage mode
The storage mode is activated whenever no discharge has occurred within 24 hours.
In storage mode, the float voltage is then reduced to 2.2 V/cell (13.2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimize gas evolution and corrosion on the positive plates.
Once a week, the voltage is increased to the gassing voltage level. This achieves a kind of equalization charge, which prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation – the two main reasons for premature battery failure.
To extend battery life: temperature compensation
A temperature sensor is supplied with every Phoenix charger. The temperature sensor ensures a decreasing charging voltage as battery temperature rises.
This is particularly important for gel batteries or if high temperature fluctuations are constantly expected.
Battery Voltage Sense
To compensate for voltage losses due to cable resistance, the Phoenix charger has a voltage sensor in the charging circuit, so that the battery always receives the correct charging current.
Universal 90-265 V AC input voltage range:
also suitable for DC power supply (AC-DC and DC-DC operation).
The chargers accept a 90-400 V DC power supply.
Computer Interface
Each Phoenix charger can exchange information with a computer via its RS-485 data port.
Together with the VEConfigure software, which can be downloaded free of charge from the www.victronenergy.com website, and the Data Link MK1b (additional accessory), all charger parameters can be individually set.
