"FACTOR 55" HAWSE FAIRLEAD 1.0 (1.0" THICK)

Factor 55 introduces a new line of aluminum hawses. The 1.0 and 1.5 hawses are CNC machined from 1 and 1.5 inch thick USA 6000 series aluminum bar. The industry standard for fairleads is .75 inches thick.

The stronger aluminum results in a larger outside radius for the synthetic rope to glide on. This leads to less stress on the rope fibers at high pull angles and will increase the life of your synthetic rope. The 1.0 and 1.5" hawses are the industry's first hawses that are compatible with larger ½ inch diameter rope thimbles.

The hawse opening is larger to pass the larger ½" tubular thimbles. There is also a machined outer corner chamfer to reduce rope stress for those planning to use the winch as a front attachment device. These hawses come in a durable MIL-A-8625F TYPE III gun metal gray hard anodized finish with a laser engraved logo.

What is the best surface coating for aluminum hawses? Without a doubt, it's a Type III hard anodized coating. No cosmetic Type II anodized surfaces, no powder coating, and no raw or polished aluminum. Why? Because a hard coating can resist the abrasion of a dirty/gritty synthetic winch rope rubbing over it. Especially during extreme side pulls where the stress on the rope fibers is extremely high. A Mil-A-8625 Type III hard anodized surface leaves a 0.002" thick Al2O3 ceramic coating, which is among the 5 hardest materials known to mankind. Actually, not far from the hardness of diamonds. Another valuable material property of hard anodized coatings is the low coefficient of friction. Low friction = lower rope heat. Only disadvantage? Hard anodizing is not offered in the typical bright and fancy anodizing colors. All Factor 55 fairleads are exclusively available in the Mil-A-8625 hard gray color. This is the perfect surface to extend the life of your synthetic rope.

*NOTE - The hawses do NOT come with mounting hardware.

*The reason for this is that depending on the vehicle, bumper, and thickness of the fairlead bracket, the shank length of the bolts needs to be longer or shorter so that the bolts do not come into contact with the winch housing. In most cases, the mounting bolts supplied by the winch manufacturer are sufficient in terms of strength and length. In some cases, longer bolts are required, and 3/8 grade 5 to 8 bolts with a shank length of 1.25-1.5 are a good starting point for mounting. 7/16 bolts can also be used.
