Battery isolators enable simultaneous charging of several batteries from one power source without the individual batteries being connected to each other. For example, the service battery can be discharged without the starter battery being discharged at the same time. The use of modern Shottky diodes also keeps the voltage drop small. It is approx. 0.3 V at low currents and approx. 0.45 V at nominal current.
All models in this series are equipped with a compensation diode that slightly increases the alternator's output voltage to compensate for the voltage drop caused by the Shottky diodes.
Alternator start-up excitation Some alternator types require a DC voltage at the B+ terminal for start-up excitation. On the one hand, there is a direct cable connection between the battery and the alternator. On the other hand, however, the isolation diode prevents current from flowing back, so that the alternator does not start. The new 802AC battery isolator has a special current-limited connection for start-up excitation when the alternator is started.
