Battery isolators allow simultaneous charging of multiple batteries from one power source, without the individual batteries being connected to each other. This means, for example, that the service battery can be discharged without the starter battery also being discharged at the same time. The use of modern Schottky diodes also keeps voltage loss low. It is approx. 0.3 V at low currents and approx. 0.45 V at nominal current.
All models in this series are equipped with a compensation diode, which slightly increases the alternator's output voltage to compensate for the voltage loss caused by the Schottky diodes.
Alternator start-up excitation Some alternator types require a DC voltage at the B+ pole for start-up excitation. On the one hand, there is a direct cable connection between the battery and the alternator. On the other hand, the isolation diode prevents current from flowing back, so the alternator does not start. The new 802AC battery isolator has a special current-limited connection for start-up excitation when the alternator is started.
