Victron Centaur Charger for 12 V Batteries
The new Centaur range of battery chargers from Victron Energy has been developed for worldwide use.
Meeting general requirements and input/output specifications are the main features of this new product range, designed by the renowned Dutch manufacturer. It has been designed to meet both CE marking requirements for Europe and UL marking requirements for the United States.
The Centaur range automatically allows an input range from 90 to 265 VAC 50/60 Hz. This means the devices can be used all over the world.
The Centaur model also operates with an input power of 90-400 VDC. This makes it a DC-DC charging converter, perfectly suited for an electronic diesel system. Among other things, the model features a fully automatic three-stage charging characteristic that ensures batteries are fully charged every time, as well as three separate charging outputs for multi-battery setups, to suit most typical installations.
Resistant Device, Quality Without Compromise
Aluminum casing with epoxy powder coating, drip protection against condensation, and stainless steel fasteners withstand the harshest conditions such as heat, humidity, and saline atmospheres.
The circuit boards are securely protected against corrosion by an acrylic coating. Temperature sensors ensure that all power components operate within predetermined limits and, if necessary, automatically reduce the output current in extreme conditions.
All models operate without special settings in a voltage range of 90 V to 265 V at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz. This enables worldwide use, regardless of the voltage and frequency range of the local grid.
Three Outputs with Full Output Current Each
Three separate outputs for simultaneous charging of three battery banks. Each output provides full current.
Three-Stage Charging Characteristic with Temperature Compensation
Centaur first charges with constant current (bulk) until the charging current has dropped to 70% of the nominal value.
This is followed by a fixed four-hour constant voltage phase, at the end of which a float charge phase follows. The charging voltage is regulated via the internal temperature sensor (-2mV/°C per cell).
Optimal charging voltage values can be set for the respective battery types (e.g., wet lead-acid battery, gel battery, or AGM battery) using a tip switch.
