Victron Centaur Charger for 12 V Batteries
The new Centaur battery charger series from Victron Energy was developed for worldwide use.
Meeting general requirements and input/output specifications are the main features of this new product series, designed by the renowned Dutch manufacturer. It was designed to meet both the requirements of CE marking for Europe and UL marking for the United States.
The Centaur series automatically allows an input range of 90 to 265 VAC 50/60 Hz. This means the devices can be used all over the world.
The Centaur model also operates with an input power of 90-400 VDC. This makes it a DC-DC charging converter, perfectly suited for an electronic diesel system. Among other things, the model features a fully automatic three-stage charging characteristic, ensuring that the batteries are fully charged every time, as well as three separate charging outputs for equipment with multiple batteries, to suit most typical installations.
Robust Device, Quality Without Compromise
Aluminum casing with epoxy powder coating, drip protection against condensation, and stainless steel fasteners withstand the toughest conditions such as heat, humidity, and salty atmospheres.
The circuit boards are safely protected against corrosion by an acrylic coating. Temperature sensors ensure that all power components operate within predefined limits and, if necessary, the output current is automatically reduced in extreme conditions.
All models operate without special adjustment in a voltage range of 90 V to 265 V at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz. This enables worldwide use, regardless of the voltage and frequency range of the local grid.
Three Outputs with Full Output Current Each
Three separate outputs for simultaneous charging of three battery banks. Each output provides the full current.
Three-Stage Charging Characteristic with Temperature Compensation
Centaur first charges with constant current (bulk) until the charging current has dropped to 70% of the nominal value.
This is followed by a fixed four-hour constant voltage phase, at the end of which a float charging phase begins. The charging voltage is regulated via the internal temperature sensor (-2mV/°C per cell).
A tip switch can be used to set the optimal charging voltage values for the respective battery types (e.g., wet lead-acid battery, gel battery, or AGM battery).
