Multifunctional, with intelligent energy management

The MultiPlus is a powerful true sine wave inverter, a sophisticated battery charger that uses adaptive charge technology, and a high-speed AC transfer switch in a single compact enclosure. Apart from these primary functions, the MultiPlus offers several advanced features, which are explained below.

Two AC Outputs

The main output ensures an uninterrupted supply. In the event of a grid failure, or shore or generator power being disconnected, the MultiPlus takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (in less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without interruption. The second output is live only when AC is available on the input of the MultiPlus. Loads that should not discharge the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output (a second output is available on models with a rating of 3 kVA and higher).

Virtually unlimited power thanks to parallel connection

Up to six Multis can be connected in parallel for high power demand. Six 24/3000/70 units, for example, provide 15 kW / 18 kVA output power with 420 Amps charging capacity.

Three-phase operation

In addition to parallel connection, three units can also be configured for three-phase output. But that's not all: with three strings of six parallel-connected units each, a 45 kW / 54 kVA three-phase inverter and a 1260 A charger can be built.

Split phase options

Two units can be connected to provide 120-0-120 V. More units can be connected in parallel - up to 6 units per phase - to provide up to 30 kW / 36 kVA split-phase power. Alternatively, a split-phase AC source can also be created by connecting our autotransformer (see also datasheet on www.victronenergy.com) to a 'European' inverter programmed to deliver 240 V / 60 Hz.

PowerControl – Working with limited generator power, limited shore or grid power

The MultiPlus is a very powerful battery charger. Therefore, it draws a lot of current from the generator or shore power supply (almost 20 A per 3 kVA MultiPlus at 120 VAC). With the Multi Control remote control panel, the maximum grid or generator current to be drawn can be set. The MultiPlus then takes into account other connected AC loads and uses only the 'remaining' current for charging. This prevents the generator or shore power connection from being overloaded.

PowerAssist – “Power boosting” from generators and shore support

This function gives the PowerControl principle a new dimension. It allows the MultiPlus to support undersized alternative sources. Peak loads often occur only for a limited period. In such a case, the MultiPlus ensures that insufficient shore or generator power is immediately compensated for by energy from the battery. If the load is reduced, the "excess" energy can be used to charge the batteries.

Four-stage adaptive charger and charging of two batteries

The main output provides powerful charging of the battery system using advanced ‘adaptive charge’ software. The software fine-tunes the automatic, three-stage charging process to best adapt it to the battery condition. It also adds a fourth stage for long periods in float mode. The adaptive charging process is described in more detail in the Phoenix charger datasheet and on our website under "Technical information". In addition, the MultiPlus charges a second battery by using an independent float charge output designed for a propulsion engine or a generator starter battery.

System configuration easier than ever

After installation, the MultiPlus is ready for operation. If settings need to be changed, this can be done within a few minutes using a DIP switch setting procedure. Even parallel connection or three-phase operation can be programmed using the DIP switches: no computer is needed for this! Alternatively, VE.Net can be used instead of DIP switches. In addition, sophisticated software (VE.Bus Quick Configure and VE.Bus System Configurator) is also available to configure some new, advanced functions.
