The Victron MultiPlus 48/20k/250-100 is a powerful combi unit comprising an inverter, charger, and transfer switch for large 48 V off-grid, backup, or grid-connected PV systems. It delivers 20 kW continuous power (up to 25 kW peak power) and charges batteries with up to 250 A. The integrated 100 A transfer switch ensures uninterrupted switching between grid/generator operation and battery supply (switching time under 20 ms). This makes the device particularly well-suited for applications where high loads need to be reliably supplied.

Inverter + Charger + Transfer Switch: One Device, Many Tasks

In daily operation, the MultiPlus handles several key functions: it supplies consumers from the battery, recharges the battery when an AC source is available, and automatically switches between energy sources as needed. Thanks to the two AC outputs, you can run critical and non-critical consumers separately.

PowerAssist and PowerControl: When Generator or Grid Power is Limited

With PowerAssist, the MultiPlus supports the grid or generator during peak loads by temporarily providing additional power from the battery. PowerControl limits the maximum input current – useful with limited grid or generator power.

Communication & System Integration via VE.Bus and GX/VRM

Via VE.Bus, the MultiPlus can be fully integrated into Victron systems. In combination with GX devices such as Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX, you can monitor the system via the Victron Remote Management Portal (VRM). For configuration, local tools such as VEConfigure and (depending on the setup) the VictronConnect app are available. Additionally, there are programmable relays as well as analog/digital I/O.

Installation, Batteries, and Expansion Options

The MultiPlus is compatible with common battery types, including Victron Lithium Smart. It can be operated in parallel and also configured as a three-phase system. Installation is wall-mounted in a dry, well-ventilated environment (protection class IP20). As a guide, a battery capacity of 450–1400 Ah at 48 V is recommended. Connection is made via M8 battery terminals and M6 AC studs; a temperature sensor for temperature-compensated charging is included.

Charging Method & Battery Protection

The charger operates with an adaptive, four-stage charging algorithm (Bulk, Absorption, Float, Storage). The BatterySafe mode reduces the risk of excessive gassing, and the storage mode protects the battery during extended periods of non-use.
