Multifunctional, with intelligent energy management

The MultiPlus is a powerful true sine wave inverter, an advanced battery charger that utilizes adaptive charging technology, and a high-speed AC transfer switch in a single compact enclosure. Aside from these primary functions, the MultiPlus offers several advanced features, which are explained below.

Two AC outputs

The main output ensures uninterrupted operation. In the event of a power outage or an interruption of shore/generator power, the MultiPlus takes over the supply of connected loads. The transfer happens so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is ensured. The second output only supplies power when AC power is available at the MultiPlus input. Loads that should not discharge the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output (a second output is available on models with a rated power of 3 kVA and more).

Virtually unlimited power through parallel connection

Up to six Multi units can be connected in parallel for high power demand. Six 24/3000/70 units, for example, deliver 15 kW / 18 kVA output power with 420 Amps charging capacity.

Three-phase operation

In addition to parallel connection, three units can also be configured for three-phase output. But that's not all: with three strings of six parallel connected units each, a 45 kW / 54 kVA three-phase inverter and a 1260 A charger can be built.

Split-phase options

Two units can be connected together to provide 120-0-120 V. More units can be connected in parallel - up to 6 units per phase - to provide up to 30 kW / 36 kVA split-phase power. Alternatively, a split-phase AC source can also be created by connecting our autotransformer (see also datasheet at www.victronenergy.com) to a 'European' inverter programmed to deliver 240 V / 60 Hz.

PowerControl – Working with limited generator power, restricted shore or grid power

The MultiPlus is a very powerful battery charger. Therefore, it draws a lot of current from the generator or shore power supply (almost 20 A per 3 kVA MultiPlus at 120 VAC). With the Multi Control remote panel, the maximum grid or generator current to be drawn can be set. The MultiPlus then takes into account other connected AC loads and only uses the remaining current for charging. This prevents the generator or shore power connection from being overloaded.

PowerAssist – “Power boosting” of generators and shore connection support

With this function, the PowerControl principle gains a new dimension. It allows the MultiPlus to support undersized alternative sources. Load peaks often occur only for a limited period. In such a case, the MultiPlus ensures that insufficient shore or generator power is immediately compensated by energy from the battery. When the load is reduced, the "excess" energy can be used to charge the batteries.

Four-stage adaptive charger and charging of two batteries

The main output provides powerful charging of the battery system using advanced ‘adaptive charging’ software. The software fine-tunes the automatic, three-stage charging process to best adapt it to the battery condition. It also adds a fourth stage for long periods in maintenance mode. The adaptive charging process is described in more detail in the Phoenix Charger datasheet and on our website under "Technical Information." In addition, the MultiPlus charges a second battery using an independent trickle charge output designed for a propulsion engine or a starter battery for a generator.

System configuration easier than ever

After installation, the MultiPlus is ready for operation. If settings need to be changed, this can be done within a few minutes using a DIP switch setting procedure. Even parallel connection or three-phase operation can be programmed using the DIP switches: no computer is required for this! Alternatively, VE.Net can also be used instead of the DIP switches. Advanced software (VE.Bus Quick Configure and VE.Bus System Configure) is also available to configure some new, extended functions.
